What makes things so interesting? This idea that a new side of the comet will be exposed to the sun when it is around perihelion means the experts have no idea what it will do. To add to the intrigue, the best guess they do have (from supercomputers) tells them that fragments of the comet could/will? pelt the earth. As a reminder, a space rock the size of an car could easily wipe out an entire city.
So, it is an interesting coincidence that all the drama surrounding the economy and the government shutdown is occurring right now huh? Get people concerned about the banks and the economy then BAM, surprise! Oops? Another one of those NASA statements "there is zero chance this thing harms the earth" goes into the dustbin while people clean up blood from the sidewalks (remember the Russian impact?)
Whoa brother D, did you really have to go there? Had our Lord not gone there first, I would not go there:
Rev 8:7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.
8And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; 9And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
10And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; 11And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
12And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.
I will be the first person to admit when it comes to timing many of the events of Revelation, I am stumbling around in the dark. However, when the Lord tells us space rocks falling to the earth is one of the judgements coming and I see stories of fireballs in the sky every night should I not at least wonder if the earth is about to get pummeled?
The same people who tell you the rapture cannot happen right now because of a,b,c,d, etc are the same ones saying these events in Revelation 8 cannot take place right now. To them I would say "talk to the people in Chelyabinsk, Russia" or talk to the people all over the United States and other parts of the world who are seeing these fireballs nightly.
Why write this? Why focus on this? Because the Lord did first. Why did the Lord write Revelation 6? Why did the Lord write Revelation 8? To warn us. If someone told you it was about to rain, and you felt a couple rain drops on your head would you doubt them? If the Lord told us the earth was going to be pummeled with space rocks and people begin to see fireballs in the sky every night should you doubt what was written?
Combine these things with outgoing Sec. Napolitano's warning:

Should we keep our heads buried in the sand?
I will leave you with our Lord's own Words to a wicked and adulterous generation:
Matt 16:1The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.
2He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ 3and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.a 4A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away.
