Here, the Lord gives his servants his goods to go out and be profitable:
Matt 25:14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. 16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. 17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. 18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.
24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: 27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. 28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. 30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
What occurred to me this morning:
The unprofitable servant said "I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth"
Rev 3:10 tells us that the church that will escape the tribulation will be a weak church. Even though we will be weak, we can still do something. The problem with the unprofitable servant is he hid the 'talent' in the earth. If it's in the earth, you can do nothing with it, not even a little. I'm convinced that 'a little' can be turned into alot over time. A little bit of erosion, over a long time is what formed the grand canyon. A little bit of saving, over many years can add up to a fortune. A little bit of time investment, every day, can lead to significant knowledge in a given area of study. A little, done over a long time, ADDS UP.
The parable of the talents in Matt 25 shows me that Jesus expects something......anything more than nothing. So you're weak, do the little you can in your weak state. The Lord never asks you for what you can't do, he asks you to do the little you CAN do. Put out, do, act, little things add up to big things. Little things, ADD UP. Buried, you can do nothing with your talents. What has the Lord given you? Do the little you can with it today, and do it again tomorrow. The secret to living is giving. What can you give to someone else today (besides money)? We live in a world full of hurting people, do you have any idea how much one kind word might mean to someone else today? We just don't know. Be full of the Spirit and ready for service, kind of like a firefighter. They have to be ready when they are called. We have to be ready when the Spirit tells us to act, you never know when thats going to be. The sons of God are led by the SPIRIT OF GOD, not by men. When the Spirit says to jump you need to be ready to jump.
Do the little things you can do today. What seems small and insignificant today can be huge tomorrow. Plant, sow actions, who knows what will be successful? How do we know what the Lord will cause to grow? The Lord knows how to conduct the orchestra, you just need to play your part. I don't know what that is, you do.
Don't bury your talent, whatever, and however small it is. Small to you might mean everything to someone else, who knows? Do the little things you can do today. People think about doing grand things for God in some far away land and forget about the people around them everyday. People want to change the world but refuse to change themselves. "Change you can count on" starts with you and me.
Time is short, the escape approaches quickly. Pray that you will be counted worthy of it. Remain in Him, be obedient, be faithful, love with all your heart. Soon..very soon, these things will be the only things that matter, everything else is a pipedream. Remember the little things.
