Desperate for Normalcy

Last weekend we saw the massive 'derecho' storm that knocked out power to millions in the US.  Now we are seeing a record breaking heatwave

combined with mass animal deaths (again),

record flooding in Russia

while we are moving back around to the next earthquake window this fall.

The deniers are desperate for normalcy.  They say "this is all normal" to soothe their own minds.  We know that 25+ states in triple digit heat is not normal, nor are 'derecho' storms, nor is the flooding in Russia normal.  The fish kills are being blamed on the heat, but we had massive fish kills in the winter too and they blamed those on either "we don't know" or some other ridiculous excuses like they used for bird deaths: example "fireworks shot down the birds" for the past two years in Arkansas.

What does this all mean?  'Normal' is going out the window fast.  What can we do about it?  Seek the only real refuge:

Psalm 91
1He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.a
2I will sayb of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
9If you make the Most High your dwelling—
even the Lord, who is my refuge—
10then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”

The world is turning upside down before our eyes and yes we can do something about it.  We can seek the Lord God who is a real fortress and a real hiding place, and a real protector, and a real guardian and a real help in our time of need.  The scoffers can continue to scoff but what will they do in their day of reckoning?

It is becoming increasingly apparent that all earthly hiding places and places of refuge are being removed.  Those who deny their Creator will have nowhere to turn.  Why be so hardened?  Grace and mercy are offered to all men today.  By faith we can lay hold of these things and find real protection.  This writer knows where his food shelter water and every other provision has come from:  the Lord Jesus Christ and our Father in heaven.

We can give thanks today for all that we have been given and we can remain in His Word.  We can cry out for protection and provision today as we see the world spiral out of control.  Those who have ears to hear, let them hear.

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
