Baal was not a Roman god. Baal, more specifically Bel was a Babylonian god.
To get to the truth we take the shortest distance to connect point a to point b. Liars and frauds take you on a 1,000 mile journey to connect dots that are millimeters apart. Why? Because they have to sufficiently muddy the water with lies and deceptions (requiring time and distance from the truth which necessitates words ad naseum. The Bible is not wordy, neither is the Lord. He makes His point clearly and moves on. The Lord is also is efficient with His word use (a byproduct of being all-knowing) so He often calls things by name to differentiate things from one another in the most efficient way possible.
Calling things by name is the way to get from point a to point b most efficiently. So in today's example we see Babylonian names called out in the paper. What did the Lord tell us would be fallen in the last days? Babylon. The gods of Babylon are what? One of them is named Bel:

Show me a Bel/Rome association in the Bible.....Oops, can't do it, its not there.
Babylonian monuments are being setup around the world. Western countries are being invaded by people from Babylon (Iraq/Syria). They speak Arabic, not Latin, not Italian.
So what, why should you care? Because gone are the days of theorizing and guessing whether or not we are in the last days. Babylon is rising right now before our eyes. If Babylon is rising what are the time implications? It means time is short. No, we dont know the day nor hour our Lord will perform His unannounced visit, nor do we know the day or hour the tribulation will begin. What we do know is end time pieces are falling into place exactly where they need to be to kick it all off.
Babylon is rising, mark of the beast technology is within reach (1-3.5 years out), and this world is perfectly primed to accept anti-Christ as we see from the people's rejection of run of the mill thief/liar/murderer politicians that they have tolerated for generations. This year is a Jubilee year which comes around every 49+1 years and it just so happens that all of the other things mentioned in this paragraph are happening at the same time. So what? Our God is a God of perfect timing.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.
It appears that based on all these things ^^ He told us would happen (in addition to the lunar tetrad, Shemitah cycle, solar eclipses, earthquakes, comets, fireballs being spotted with increased intensity etc) that the turning point in history is upon us. Our God told us these things would happen and they are happening.
What kind of mindset should we have as we see these things take place around us? Where should are heart and spirit be as we see these things fall into place around us? Where should our eyes and the eyes of our hearts be? On Him and in Him. We have no idea when the Lord is going to say "time is up!" and it all begins. He told us to be watching and ready at all times for just that reason:
Luke 21:34And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. 35For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
